A woman walking to work for a night shift was attacked by a group of teenagers in downtown Winnipeg late Friday night.

Winnipeg police said the 23-year-old victim was walking in the 500 block of Portage Avenue around midnight Friday when the group started following her. Police said they threw her to the ground, repeatedly punched and kicked her, and demanded she hand over personal items. The attack ended when a bystander shouted at the group and they ran away. Police said the victim needed medical treatment for her injuries.

Police said the assault was captured on video surveillance and officers arrested three suspects nearby.

A 14-year-old teenage boy and 15-year-old teenage girl are charged with robbery and remain in custody. A 12-year-old girl is also facing a robbery charge but was released on an undertaking.
