Winnipeg crews respond to 2 vacant house fires in span of 3 hours

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) extinguished fires at a pair of vacant homes over the course of three hours on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the first incident just before 12:30 a.m. at a two-storey house in the 600 block of Pritchard Avenue.

By the time crews arrived at the scene, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the home. Firefighters attacked the blaze from inside the structure, declaring it under control by 1:15 a.m.

WFPS crews searched the house, but no one was inside.

Firefighters were called to the second blaze at a home in the 400 block of Burrows Avenue just before 3:30 a.m. According to the City of Winnipeg, the house was damaged in a previous fire in September 2022.

When WFPS got to the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames. Firefighters launched an interior attack, getting the fire under control by 4 a.m.

No one was inside the home at the time of the fire.

Both the fires are under investigation. No injuries were reported.
