Two people were pronounced dead on scene following a crash on a southeast Manitoba highway.
RCMP officers responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 12, about 30 kilometers south of Steinbach, at around 9:25 a.m. Sunday morning.
“Investigators believe a minivan, travelling north on Highway 12, attempted to pass a semi-trailer when it collided head-on with a southbound SUV,” RCMP said in a news release.
The 76-year-old man driving the minivan and a 72-year-old female passenger were killed in the crash. A 37-year-old male passenger was taken to hospital in serious condition.
The driver of the SUV, a 41-year-old man, was transported to hospital in critical condition.
Mounties said the investigation is ongoing.
