Manitoba’s newest millionaire thought it was a phone scam when she was originally told of her $1 million dollar lottery win.

The Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) phoned Dianne Hindle of Notre Dame de Lourdes to tell her she hit the jackpot through her Lotto 6/49 subscription on PlayNow.

“I was surprised to get the phone call,” she said in a news release. “Ever since, I’ve been going through my head like, ‘This isn’t really happening!’”

She said she called the WCLC Player Centre to confirm the legitimacy of the call and found out her winning ticket 20837449-01, won the March 8 Gold Ball draw.

Hindle started subscribing to the automatic entry system through PlayNow at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Subscriptions are available for several lotteries, such as Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49.

As for what she will do with her new windfall, Hindle says she and her husband are thinking of taking a trip to visit family and spoiling their grandchildren and pets.
