Manitoba mother arrested in Toronto for alleged child abduction: RCMP

Published:

A Manitoba mother has been charged following an alleged attempt to leave Canada with her children.

According to Manitoba RCMP, officers in Steinbach received the report on Thursday from the father, a 47-year-old man from the RM of La Broquerie.

The father said he was supposed to pick up his two daughters – ages 12 and 8 – from school earlier in the day, but was told his wife, 45, had left with the children. The father said he believed they were attempting to leave Canada.

RCMP said the mother and the two children were seen at the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport at roughly 1:20 p.m. and had boarded a flight to Toronto.

Peel Regional Police Service found the mother and two children at Pearson International Airport in Toronto trying to board a flight to Turkey.

The mother was arrested on charges of parental abduction, and arrangements are being made for her to return to Manitoba. None of the charges have been tested in court.

The two children were placed into care and will return to Manitoba.

The investigation continues.
