With warmer temperatures in Manitoba this week comes the return of snow, too.

After snow fell in parts of central and northern Manitoba on Tuesday, a new low pressure system is spreading more snow in the same general area on Wednesday. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said 2 to 5 cm of snowfall is possible.

The highest amounts, closer to 5 cm, are forecast for western areas including The Pas and Flin Flon. Lesser amounts, around 2 cm, could fall in Thompson. Further east, Island Lake can expect light, intermittent snow.

Snow will end in those areas over the course of Wednesday evening.

Rain showers, snow showers, or flurries associated with the same system could swing through Winnipeg and southeast late Wednesday afternoon or early evening.

Precipitation will miss the southwest on Wednesday afternoon, including Brandon. Instead, gusting west winds will develop that will strengthen and come from the northwest tonight.

The same strong and gusting northwest winds will reach Winnipeg by early Wednesday evening.

On Thursday, yet another more potent low pressure system will spread snow into northern Manitoba, arriving in the northwest during the day before spreading east at night.

At this point, ECCC has issued snowfall warnings in Saskatchewan up to the Manitoba border. On this side, the weather agency forecasts 5 to 10 cm of snow, falling heavily at times, for Flin Flon and The Pas.
