Weather conditions are mild in southern Manitoba and cold in northern regions on Thursday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said a warm front ahead of a low near Yorkton, Sask. is dropping southeast across southern Manitoba.
Daytime highs will climb between -2 C and -4 C in most southern regions Thursday afternoon, including Winnipeg and Brandon.
However, Swan River will see afternoon temperatures fall along with other communities further north, including The Pas.
North of the cold front associated with the Yorkton low, conditions are significantly colder in parts of northern Manitoba.
An extreme cold warning issued by ECCC continues Thursday for the Lynn Lake, Brochet, and Tadoule Lake regions.
Daytime highs between -27 C and -30 C are expected in those areas in the afternoon, before bitterly cold wind chill values become extreme overnight.
Colder air will weave its way into southern Manitoba on Friday - the last day of January.
Daytime highs will only reach the upper minus teens in Winnipeg and could fall during the afternoon closer to -20 C.
ECCC said a low will develop on Friday off of Vancouver Island that will encounter warm, humid air pushing over the Rockies.
That will trigger several centimetres of snow expected to arrive in southern Manitoba on Saturday, including Winnipeg.
