With less than two full days of the winter season left, conditions are mild on Tuesday across Manitoba.

Temperatures across the southeast are warmer than Monday, with daytime highs expected to climb above the freezing mark this afternoon.

Most areas are forecast to reach 2 C, including Winnipeg. For the most part, though, clouds will stick around the rest of the day.

Daytime highs will be a few degrees cooler in the southwest Tuesday afternoon, with highs in most regions between -1 C and -4 C.

Brighter skies are expected in Dauphin and Swan River under a mix of sun and cloud, while conditions around Brandon will remain cloudy.

Environment and Climate Change Canada cautions that fog is possible at times over the next few days across the southern Prairies. The culprit - building high pressure trapping a boundary layer of moisture.

In northern Manitoba, most regions will see another day of sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud on Tuesday.

The lone spoiler is a weak disturbance that could scatter a few flurries over Norway House, Thompson and Island Lake.

Daytime highs in the most northern areas will only reach the mid-minus teens this afternoon, while regions further south will be several degrees warmer.

In northwestern Ontario, Tuesday is shaping up to be a nice late winter day with sunshine and temperatures expected to reach 4 C.

The last day of winter will be mild on Wednesday in Winnipeg, with sunshine and a forecast high of 2 C.

The vernal equinox occurs Thursday at 4:01 a.m. in Manitoba, marking the official start of spring.

It will be the warmest day of the week, with a sunny forecast high of 7 C.
