Colleen Bready's forecast: Cold persists Friday, warmer temperatures on the way

Manitoba weather update – Dec. 20 Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for Dec. 20, 2024.

It’s fair to say that winter conditions have long since arrived in Manitoba, which makes it a bit strange to consider that Friday is the last full day of autumn.

Winter officially arrives in the province with the solstice at 3:20 a.m. Saturday.

With the Christmas holidays fast approaching, so are warmer temperatures – just not so much today.

Daytime highs in the southeast and in northwestern Ontario, where the sun will be shining, will only reach highs in the upper minus teens.

Temperatures won’t be quite as cold in the southwest, where sky conditions are cloudier this afternoon.

Northern Manitoba will bask in the sunshine with highs in the -20s.

Ahead tonight, a relatively weak disturbance could bring a light dusting of flurries across the south and snow to the north.

Temperatures will also rise overnight in many parts of the province, including Winnipeg.

Winds will strengthen from the south on Saturday in the city, which will help to usher in a milder weather pattern. It might not feel like it, though, since the winds will be strong enough to generate a chilly feeling wind chill.

That said, if mild temperatures over holidays are on your wish list, Santa might just deliver.

The forecast high for Christmas Eve on Tuesday is -3 C. Temperatures on Christmas Day on Wednesday and Boxing Day on Thursday will come close to the freezing mark with forecast highs both days of -1 C. That’s 10 degrees above the normal daytime high for this time of year.

Optimistically, all three days should see a mix of sun and cloud.
