Manitobans in northern parts of the province will be waking up to some freezing temperatures on Friday morning.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued extreme cold warnings in several communities, including Brochet, Shamattawa and Tadoule Lake, which were lifted later Friday morning.
According to the weather agency, clear skies under an arctic ridge have caused “bitterly cold air temperatures” in the -30s. The frigid temperatures combined with 15 to 20 km/h winds have resulted in extreme wind chills.
Conditions are expected to improve gradually later on Friday morning.
ECCC warns that extreme cold puts everyone at risk, so it’s best to dress warmly, stay dry and keep pets safe.
It adds that if you experience any cold-related symptoms to move inside and begin warming up.
