Two men have been charged with aggravated assault after police say they cut off a woman’s finger during a disagreement.

According to Winnipeg police, the incident took place in December 2023. Two men and a woman in her 20s – all known to each other and allegedly believed to be “part of the criminal drug subculture” – were at a home in the 200 block of College Avenue.

Police said the group got into a fight and the two men amputated one of the woman’s fingers. She received medical treatment and didn’t file a police report at the time.

More than a year later, an investigation led to police charging two men with aggravated assault.

The two suspects, a 28-year-old man and a 37-year-old man, were already in custody at Milner Ridge Correctional Centre for unrelated matters. Both men remain in custody and the aggravated assault charges haven’t been tested in court.
