A large donation was made today to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation.

A cheque in the amount of $23,000 – proceeds from the A Day for a Life charity golf tournament – was unveiled this morning at the Windsor Regional Hospital’s Ouellette Campus.

The event started in 2007 by Gunther and Judy Funkenhauser to raise money and honour their son Trevor Louis Funkenhauser who passed away in 2006 after battling endocarditis. It’s a dangerous inflammation of the inner lining of the heart’s chambers and valves (the endocardium), usually caused by bacterial or fungal infection.

Today’s cheque will support organ donations and ICU (intensive care unit) waiting room upgrades. The Funkenhauser family have been donating to the foundation for the past 17 years.

Nicole Krywionek is the clinical vice-president for critical care services at Windsor Regional Hospital.

Krywionek is grateful to the Funkenhauser family’s ongoing generosity and support that has been a vital part of helping those in our community with critical health care needs.

“The foundation supplies important capital funds for the hospital to purchase equipment and, services for the hospital that’s not funded by, our provincial government,” said Krywionek.

“And this is important for our community because it allows us to provide innovative, patient centered care for the members of our community.”
