The plane crash that injured more than a dozen people at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport Monday has impacted some flights in Vancouver, officials have confirmed.
The collision – which involved a Delta Airlines flight from Minneapolis – resulted in a temporary suspension of Pearson’s arrivals and departures, which had a spillover effect across the country, with a number of flights needing to be diverted, delayed or cancelled.
In a social media post, the Vancouver International Airport said the unfolding situation “will have an impact on flights connected to YYZ” on B.C.’s Family Day holiday.
The YVR website listed several flights to and from Toronto as either delayed or cancelled as of early Monday afternoon, with some delays exceeding three hours.
Travellers have been advised to check the airport’s website for updates.
At least 15 people were injured when the Delta Airline flight crashed on the tarmac, and three of them – including a child – are reported to be in critical condition.
Images from the scene show the aircraft upside-down and surrounded by emergency crews.
The cause of the crash has not been confirmed, but is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.
