A 32-year-old man is facing several charges after allegedly using his vehicle to assault another man, then lighting the victim’s home on fire, police say.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday in the small community of Southbank, south of Burns Lake, according to a news release from Burns Lake RCMP.
Gerald Eric Noth has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, arson, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and breach of undertaking, the detachment said.
Officers were called to a report that a man had been struck by a vehicle in Southbank around 1:30 a.m., Mounties said.
“The man apparently suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment,” the release reads. “The victim’s residence was later discovered to be engulfed in flames.”
Officers identified Noth as the suspect, located him at his home and took him into custody without incident, police said.
“All indications point to this being a targeted and isolated incident,” said Staff Sgt. Joshua Smith, the Burns Lake RCMP detachment commander, in the release.
“There is no ongoing risk to public safety at this time.”
Noth remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court by video on Tuesday, police said.
