Mounties are investigating what they describe as a “sudden death” at the Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort Thursday morning.

Officers were called to Blackcomb Mountain around 10 a.m. for reports of an “unfolding incident” involving an “unresponsive female,” according to a news release from the Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP.

Despite the life-saving efforts of the ski patrol and paramedics, the woman was pronounced dead after being transported to a medical facility.

“We are deeply saddened by what transpired today,” Whistler Blackcomb COO, Belinda Trembath, said in a statement

“Incidents of this nature are felt by all of us, and Whistler-Blackcomb’s sympathy and support are with the guest’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

Authorities have not said what caused the woman’s death or if it is considered suspicious. The RCMP did say no further information will be released at this time “out of respect for those involved.”

Witnesses and anyone else with information are asked to call police at 604-932-3044.
