One man is in hospital in critical condition and a suspect remains at large after a shooting early Wednesday morning in Kelowna, B.C.

A statement from the Kelowna RCMP says Mounties were called to a possible firearm incident near the downtown intersection of Ellis Street and Leon Avenue at approximately 3 a.m.

The adult male victim was found at the scene and rushed to hospital where he remains in critical condition, police said.

Investigators have not identified any suspects in the shooting. However, police believe it was “an isolated incident,” according to the statement.

The 1600 block of Ellis Street remained behind police tape Wednesday as investigators gathered evidence from the scene.

“We are still working on identifying all those involved, including any suspects and witnesses,” Cpl. Michael Gauthier said, adding the investigation is still in its infancy.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP’s serious crime unit at 250-470-6236.
