Police in Surrey have ruled out foul play in the death of a man whose body was found after a fire in an abandoned house two months ago.

The blaze broke out on Jan. 5 at a home on the 9800 block 138th Street and firefighters found the deceased man while they were working to contain the flames, the Surrey Police Service said.

On Monday, authorities said the investigation into the man’s death has concluded, finding that it was not suspicious.

“The work of Surrey Fire Service, RCMP Arson investigators and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service was integral in support of this investigation,” the statement from the Surrey Police Service said.

“The culmination of all these efforts was the determination that the tragic death of this man did not involve foul play.”

Police did not provide information about the cause of the fire but previously told CTV News that they property was sometimes used by “transient” people seeking shelter.
