A 37-year-old man has been charged after “an alleged forcible confinement” in Campbell River this week.

Campbell River RCMP said in a news release Friday that Padan Cassidy Ashcroft has been charged with assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred Wednesday in the 300 block of Westgate Road, police said.

Officers were called to the area for a “report that a person had been forcibly confined with a firearm,” police said.

“The person managed to escape prior to police arrival and the suspect fled the residence,” the release reads.

“Later the same day, the suspect was taken into custody at a nearby location and transported to cells for processing.”

Police said they also executed a search warrant at “a related residence” as part of their investigation, locating and seizing two firearms.

Ashcroft remains in custody and is scheduled to make his next appearance in Port Alberni provincial court on Wednesday, according to online court records.
