Kelowna Mounties hoping family will claim ‘precious’ historic documents

The Kelowna RCMP says they are holding onto “precious” historic documents and are appealing for family members to come forward and claim them.

The memorabilia belonged to Alexander Chrisholm and Violet May Monro, a couple that lived in the city in the late 1940s but has since passed away, police say.

According to police, Alexander Monro served in Canada’s military during the Second World War, beginning in Edmonton in 1940. He was deployed to the U.K. and the “central Mediterranean area” before being discharged in 1945 with an injury.

The detachment says it has Mr. Monro’s army discharge certificate as well as Violet Monro’s identification documents.

“The RCMP have followed numerous avenues in the attempt to locate the living relatives of the Monros,” reads a statement issued Friday. “To date, police have been unable to locate any family members that would like to claim these documents.”

Police asked the public for help finding a descendant of the Monros so the documents can be safely returned to their rightful owner.

“If you are a family member, please contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and reference the file number 2025-1169,” the release reads.
