An imported French cheese sold in Vancouver is being recalled due to possible E. coli contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
The recall affects Jean Perrin brand Morbier cheese distributed in B.C. by A. Bosa & Co. Ltd. and Les Amis Du Fromage.
The cheese was sold at Les Amis Du Fromage’s two Vancouver locations “up to and including” Jan. 29, according to the recall.
A list of unique product codes subject to the recall can be found on the CFIA website.
“This recall was triggered by a recall in another country,” the website reads. “There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products in Canada.”
Anyone who has purchased the recalled products is advised not to “consume, serve, use, sell or distribute” them.
“Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased,” the CFIA said. “Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased the recalled products are advised to contact their retailer.”
Anyone who believes they became sick from consuming the affected products should call their health-care provider, the CFIA said.
Symptoms of E. coli can include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and watery or bloody diarrhea. In severe cases, the bacteria can cause seizures, strokes, kidney damage and death, according to the CFIA.
“Food contaminated with pathogenic E. coli may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make you sick,” the agency said.
