Two drivers are in hospital following a head-on collision in Oshawa Friday morning.

Durham Regional Police said it happened on Simcoe Street North, south of Howden Road East, at around 8 a.m.

A northbound Mazda pickup truck, for unknown reasons, lost control and veered into the path of a southbound GMC SUV, police said.

The collision resulted in severe damage to the two vehicles.

Police said the driver of both vehicles, a 25-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman, were transported to Toronto-area trauma centres with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Roads in the area were closed for several hours for collision investigation. They reopened before 1 p.m.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage of the incident to contact them at 905-579-1520 ext. 5217 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
