A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal collision in Brampton two months ago.

The crash happened in the early morning of Nov. 24 near Steeles Avenue East and Finch Avenue.

Police have said an Audi and a Toyota Sienna travelling in opposite lanes on Steeles Avenue collided when the Sienna made a left turn onto Finch Avenue.

A passenger in the Sienna, a man from Mississauga, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others, a Mississauga woman and a Woodstock man, were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

On Thursday, police announced that they had charged 19-year-old Mitchel Hunter from Woodstock, Ont., with dangerous operation causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

Police also revealed that their investigation had determined that Hunter was allegedly leaving a nearby street-racing event before the collision.

“Dangerous driving has tragic consequences for our community. Our Major Collision Bureau is committed to a thorough investigation of any traffic fatality,” Peel police Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said in a news release.

“Those who put our community in harms way will be arrested and charged. Accountability and meaningful repercussions are vital to addressing and deterring dangerous drivers.”
