311 hotline logs 15K complaints about green bins

There were nearly 15,000 calls to the City of Toronto tipline complaining about damaged green bins in a period of six months, according to data obtained by CTV Toronto.

Between January and June 2015, 14,951 calls were made to 311 about missing or damaged bins.

The calls were logged by postal code, with calls almost evenly split between the city's east and west. There were approximately 7,500 calls on each side of Yonge Street.

Although the total calls were evenly split, the top six postal codes with the highest number of calls were from regions in East York and Scarborough.

The area with the highest number of complaints was M1B, a region bordered by Finch Avenue, Markham Road, Highway 401 and the Scarborough-Pickering Townline. City staff took 485 calls about damaged or missing green bins from the M1B area in the six-month period.

The area with the second-highest number of complaints (440) was M2J bordered by Highway 401, the Don River, Finch Avenue East and Victoria Park Avenue.

West of Yonge Street, calls were most prevalent in the Bloordale Village (M6H) and Smithfield (M9V) areas.

The top 10 areas for complaints were:

  4. M1K, with 398 calls
  5. M1W, with 351 calls
  6. M1C, with 344 calls
  7. M4J, with 338 calls
  8. M6H, with 317 calls
  9. M9V, with 306 calls
  10. M4C, with 286 calls
  11. M6E, with 283 calls
  12. M1L, with 279 calls
  13. M8V, with 275 calls
  14. M3H, with 272 calls
  15. M9W, with 270 calls
  16. M1R, with 268 calls
  17. M6N, with 262 calls
  18. M9B, with 252 calls
  19. M1E, with 250 calls
