A fire in a single-family bungalow on the 2200 block of 20th Street West has claimed the life of one person.
The fire was reported at around 3:08 a.m. on Sunday, according to a news release from the Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD).
Fire crews arrived on the scene at 3:14 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the main floor and flames in the basement.
SFD says multiple fire units, including three fire engines, a ladder truck, a rescue unit, and the Battalion Chief responded to the scene. Utility companies were requested to shut down utilities for scene safety.

The fire was brought under control at 4:28 a.m. after which, fire crews confirmed that the body of one of the home’s occupants was recovered.
Investigators were spotted at the scene just after 9:20 a.m. Sunday – as the investigation into the cause of the fire continued.
No further information was provided by SFD. The department says an update will be provided “as soon as practical.”
