A blowing snow advisory is in effect for Regina and much of southeastern Saskatchewan on Friday.
Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Melville, Weyburn and Estevan are also included in the advisory that extends into Saskatoon and west-central Saskatchewan as well.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s (ECCC) website, falling snow combined with southeast winds gusting up to 60 kilometres per hour (km/h) will produce areas of near-zero visibility.
Conditions are expected to worsen midday Friday near the Alberta border and spread east throughout the rest of the day, ECCC said, adding conditions will then improve Friday night in the west and Saturday morning in the eastern part of the province.
“Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero,” ECCC posted on its website Friday morning.
By 2:30 Friday afternoon travel was not recommended on several highways in both the Moose Jaw and Regina regions, according to the Highway Hotline.
