Many parts of central and southeastern Saskatchewan, including Regina and Saskatoon, have been placed under an extreme cold warning on Friday afternoon.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), an Arctic ridge of high pressure is settling in over parts of the southern province on Friday night, until Saturday morning.
Overnight, temperatures will dip towards – 30 C. Winds of up to 15 km/h will result in windchill temperatures close to – 40 C.
The weather agency said conditions will gradually improve Saturday morning and advised people to dress up warm if they have to venture out.
