Moose Jaw’s Chief of Police Rick Bourassa’s official retirement date is set for Feb. 1.

Bourassa announced his plans to retire in September, Moose Jaw police issued a news release Friday morning that revealed the date of the Chief’s last day.

Bourassa spent 31-years with the Regina Police Service and a brief period of time with the provincial government before beginning his career with the Moose Jaw Police Service in October 2013.

Bourassa said his decision came with mixed emotions.

“I have been grateful to have been in policing for so many years, worked with so many exceptional people, and welcomed by the amazing community of Moose Jaw. After a lengthy career, it is time to move into the next chapter of life and whatever that may hold. Thank you,” Bourassa said in the release.

Moose Jaw’s Mayor James Murdock, who is also chair of the Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners said Bourassa’s unwavering commitment, leadership and integrity have been the cornerstone of the city’s safety and well-being for many years.

“His efforts have not only protected our residents and visitors but also fostered a sense of trust and respect between the police force and the community. Chief Bourassa’s legacy of service and dedication will be remembered,” Murdock said.

The Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners will announce their plans to hire a new Chief of Police at a later date, the release said.

Deputy Chief, Rick Johns will serve as Acting Chief of Police for the time being, the Moose Jaw Police Service said.
