More upsetting news was given to the residents of Glen Elm Mobile Home Community this week as another wave of eviction notices were handed out.

Denise Mihell is among the latest group of residents asked to leave the mobile home community.

“I’m afraid. I don’t know what’s going to happen. My future right now feels all in limbo. I don’t know if I’m going to lose my home,” she said.

The new notices indicate their rental agreement will be terminated on June 30 with park services to be disconnected on July 1.

This follows a similar round of notices that were given out in January, citing apparent critical issues with the main water and sewage infrastructure.

“All of our units are receiving water. So we don’t understand why we have to be evicted for something that should have been done by the owner of the property,” said Randall Edge, a resident at the park and president of the Glen Elm Retirement Community Association.

Rachel Torrie has been living at the park with her family since 2020. She said they have limited options.

“Our home has to be demolished. it was built in 1970. Even with the fresh remodels to it, it’s too old to move. I have two young children. Where are they going to go? Where are we going to go? There’s not really anywhere else for us to go. This is our very first home,” she explained.

“The sewer and water infrastructure is in catastrophic failure on approx. 90 trailers in the older section of the Park. Approx. 35 trailers in the southern section of the park are not affected. It is an unfortunate situation for the current residents and for us. The current system has outlived its best before date by 25 years. Glen Elm has offered incentives for moving and for trailers that can’t be moved. We are focused on helping the residents with relocation,” Glen Elm Properties Ltd., said in a statement to CTV News.

“We have been here for 70 years. We have earned the right to be here. We don’t understand why we have to leave,” Edge said.

The residents are working together through their uncertainty by working together in the association.

A GoFundMe page has also been created by Mihell in the hopes of raising enough money to hire a lawyer to represent the residents.
