Demolition crews are active at the former Holy Rosary Elementary School and Catholic Education Centre in Regina.

Asbestos abatement has been completed, and professionals conducted final air quality tests.

Following that, all utilities with the City of Regina, SaskPower and SaskEnergy were disconnected.

Ahead of the main demolition phase, the Regina Police Service and RCMP held training exercises at the site. Their SWAT and Explosives Units used the facility for training purposes from March 17-20.

The main demolition work that began Monday morning is expected to last between four to six weeks.

Holy Rosary Elementary School was officially closed at the end of the 2023-24 school year after structural concerns arose in 2023.

The school was built in 1914 with additions to the original building done in both 1928 and 1971.
