Ontario Provincial Police say two snowmobilers are facing several charges after an incident in Pembroke, Ont. Tuesday night.

According to the OPP, patrol officers saw two people driving snowmobiles recklessly in Riverside Park in Pembroke at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police claim the snowmobiles had modified exhausts, and the drivers refused to stop when confronted by the officers.

They were eventually found and arrested elsewhere in Pembroke.

Police did not identify the accused in a news release Wednesday but said they are both 27 years old and are each facing charges under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act of careless driving, failing to stop for police, driving without insurance, failing to notify change of ownership and having an improper muffler.

One of the drivers is also charged with failing to have a working headlight, failing to notify a change of address, failing to display a registration number, failing to display evidence of a permit, and driving a snowmobile without a trail permit.

Both snowmobiles were towed away by police. The drivers are scheduled to appear in court in April.
