Kingston, Ont. police have arrested an inmate accused of sexually assaulting a woman while he was on statutory release earlier this month.
Police say a woman was using the Rideau Trail system between the north end of Queen Mary Road and the south end of Parkway when she was sexually assaulted by a man not known to her.
The victim suffered non-life threating injuries that required medical attention because of the attack, police say.
Police arrested the man on March 13. He was charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement and have face mask/disguise.
The Correctional Service of Canada says in an email the suspect had been serving federal time for aggravated sexual assault and overcome resistance. It would not provide more information, citing the Privacy Act.
His parole was suspended and he was taken to Kington police headquarters where he was held for a bail hearing.
