A 14-year-old boy is facing charges in connection to threats targeting eastern Ontario schools last fall, according to police.
Ontario Provincial Police said there were “anonymous telephone threats to commit violent acts” at St. Michael Catholic High School in Kemptville, Ont. between Sept. 12, 2024, and October. 18, 2024. The threats forced the closure of the school several times.
Police previously said a school in nearby Iroquois, Ont. was also threatened on Oct. 3.
In October, police charged a 14-year-old from Bridgewater, N.S. in connection to the threats made against St. Michael Catholic High School.
Police said on Monday, officers with the Grenville County OPP executed a search warrant at a home in South Dundas Township and one person was arrested.
The teen is facing three counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, three counts of indecent communications, two counts of mischief – interfere with lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property over $5,000, and three counts of public mischief.
Police say the charges relate to incidents in Kemptville, Iroquois and New York State.
“While charges have been laid, the investigation is continuing in conjunction with the OPP Cyber Investigations Team, police in multiple jurisdictions, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigations in the United States,” the OPP said. “The OPP also continues to look into potential connections to any similar incidents.”
