Brockville police have charged a local business owner in connection with alleged sexual offences against a teenage employee.

Police arrested a man on Sunday.

The accused is identified as Satkunarajah Thangarajah, 65, who owns and operates an M&M Food Market store in Brockville.

He is charged with four counts of sexual assault on a person under 16, four counts of sexual interference and one count of making child pornography.

The charges have not been proven in court.

A spokesperson for M&M Food Market said their Brockville location has been temporarily closed.

“It is important to clarify that this matter involves an independently owned and operated franchise location and does not involve any of our employees. That said, we are looking into this matter,” a statement from the company said.

A phone call to the store Wednesday afternoon went to voicemail.

Brockville police said Thangarajah was held for a bail hearing.

Investigators believe that there may be more victims. Any victim, witness or anyone with information is being asked to contact Detective Graham Coe at 613-342-0127 extension 4245.
