Three killed in head-on crash east of Cornwall, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police say three people are dead after a head-on crash east of Cornwall Thursday night.

It happened on County Road 2, near McGibbon Road, at around 9 p.m. The OPP says an eastbound vehicle had crossed into the westbound lanes, forcing at least two other drivers to swerve. Moments later, two vehicles collided head-on and one caught fire.

The driver of the eastbound car, and the driver and one passenger in the westbound vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, while the second passenger in the westbound vehicle was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

A 16-year-old girl from Champlain Township, a 44-year-old man from Ottawa and a 65-year-old woman from Cornwall died in the crash. Their names have not been made public. The injured passenger is a 16-year-old boy from Cornwall.

A stretch of County Road 2 was closed overnight for the investigation but has since reopened.
