OPP officer struck by vehicle while investigating a crash on Hwy. 401 in eastern Ontario

An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 401 in eastern Ontario.

Emergency crews responded to a collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Newburgh Road in Napanee just before 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the officer was at the scene of an earlier collision when they were struck by a passing vehicle.

“The officer was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” the OPP said on X. “The OPP has engaged support services for the officer’s family and detachment members.”

The westbound lanes of Highway 401 remain closed while the investigation continues.

“The thoughts of all OPP members are with the injured officer and their family,” police said.

Collision in detour area injuries OPP officer

An Ontario Provincial Police officer suffered minor injuries in a crash that occurred on the detour route following the crash on Hwy. 401.

The OPP says there was a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 2 and Palace Road just before 8 a.m.

“Traffic was heavy in the area due to a detour on Highway 401,” the OPP said. “The collision happened when two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection.”

An OPP officer with the Bancroft Detachment suffered minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was not hurt.

Police say a 23-year-old driver from Bath, Ont. is facing a charge under the Highway Traffic Act with failing to yield to traffic on a through highway."
