Fewer vehicles have been reported stolen in Ottawa so far this year compared to 2024.
The Ottawa Police Service’s crime map shows police received 289 reports of vehicle thefts between January 1 and March 19. In 2024, police received 463 reports of vehicle thefts between Jan. 1 and March 25.
The crime map doesn’t say how many vehicles were recovered.
The Ottawa Police Service’s statistics show 1,645 auto thefts were reported in Ottawa last year, with a total of 1,705 vehicles stolen. Vehicle thefts include joy rides, opportunistic thefts and “single-use crimes.” Police say 951 stolen vehicles were recovered in 2024.

Gloucester-Southgate is the hot spot for vehicle thefts, with 31 vehicles reported stolen in the first 78 days of the year. Twenty-nine vehicles have been reported stolen in Alta Vista, while 21 vehicles have been reported stolen in College ward.
The Ottawa Police Service is set to receive a new tool this year to help crack down on vehicle thefts. The Ontario government has announced a new Ontario Provincial Police helicopter will be stationed in Ottawa to help address auto thefts and stunt driving.
