How can you reframe the fear of the unknown into excitement for what’s new. Author, Speaker, and Podcaster Jill Wright joined us today.

The fear of the unknown can become a motivation when you shift your mindset about how you perceive failure and take on new challenges, according to an Ottawa author and podcaster.

“A lot of people don’t know this, but failure and excitement feel the same in the body,” Speaker Jill Wright told CTV Morning Live Wednesday, as she shared some tips about success and growth.

“It’s really up to our mind to decide when we have that feeling in the pit of our stomach or those butterflies. Do we want to label it as fear? Or do we want to label it as excitement? And that little shift can make a huge difference. So, it’s just basically changing your mindset on that exactly.”

Wright says time management is very important when it comes to achieving growth and success. She suggests making a weekly plan, where you write down your to-do list and appointments for the week.

“If we put our growth or the thing that we’re working towards in our calendar and treat it like an appointment that we would like with a doctor or a friend or someone’s expecting us to show up, we’re a lot more likely to make sure that we show up,” she explained.

Having a support system is essential to success, she says, noting the importance of asking for help whenever need be.

Wright says you can seek support from coaches in your area if you don’t have good people around you.

She notes that success requires getting out of your comfort zone.

“There’s no growth in your comfort zone,” she said. “And there’s no comfort in your growth zone, so you can expect it to be uncomfortable.”

Consistency is another key factor to achieve success, she says. You can start small, and with consistency, grow and achieve something, she explains.

Taking on too many responsibilities and tasks at once can be overwhelming, she says.

“So, my advice always is to start small with one thing, (and) be consistent until it becomes a habit,” she explained.

“It turns into a subconscious (habit), so then there’s room in your conscious mind to take on the next piece, and that’s your key to success.”
