The Brockville Police Service says a 46-year-old man is facing charges after taking to Facebook to post what they call “specific threatening messages” against a physician Monday.

Police say they received a call around 5 p.m., reporting threatening messages were being made on social media against a healthcare professional.

The report alleges that the man was upset with his physician, and “expressed a desire to cause harm to the victim by killing him, among other threats and insults” on the social media platform, police said in a news release Wednesday.

Officers say the allegations posed a high concern for the physician’s safety.

That was when officers located the man and attempted to arrest him at his home in the Macodrum Drive area. The arrest was not made without incident, police say, noting that the man did not cooperate, which prompted a call to emergency responders who helped contain him, and a request to obtain an arrest warrant at his residence.

“Negotiations were attempted at length, with a negative result. In fact, the subject became more agitated and began making other threatening comments eluding to acts of violence,” read the release.

Police say The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Tactics and Rescue Unit was also contacted to assess and execute the warrant, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Following the arrest, the 46-year-old man was taken to hospital for assessment.

Police then charged him with uttering threats.

He appeared in court for a bail hearing.
