Motorists may have been confused looking for Main Street in Ottawa, after Canada’s capital temporarily had a Main Street in Old Ottawa East and a Main Street in Riverside South.
Ottawa’s Main Street is located in in Old Ottawa East, between Colonel By Drive and Toronto Street.
This week, Riverside South-Findlay Creek Coun. Steve Desroches noted on social media that a street leading to the new Limebank LRT Station had a Main Street sign.
“Two Main Streets? This one in Riverside South leading to new OC Transpo O-Train station,” Desroches said. “There shouldn’t be two Main Streets in the City. Double street names risk 9-1-1 confusion. This was a placeholder name for the town centre plans.”
Desroches notes the street should be Town Square Place.

The City of Ottawa acknowledges the wrong street sign was installed on the road leading to Limebank Station off Earl Armstrong Road, and has been removed.
“Staff are aware of the incorrect street sign recently installed at the access to the Limebank LRT Station off Earl Armstrong Road,” Stuart Edison, Manager of Traffic Operations, said in a statement to CTV News Ottawa.
“The incorrect sign has been removed and correct street name signs are expected to be installed by Monday. We apologize for any confusion and appreciate residents’ patience as we work to correct the signage.”
