CTV News first highlighted the need for an upgrade in July 2020 during the height of the pandemic and said at the time, how funding from the federal government allowed work to begin on a new terminal.
Almost four years later, airport officials said the work is nearly complete.
"Within a month or so, we'll be located in the new terminal building,” said Robert Colwell, the airport’s manager.
“It's a well-known fact that the aviation community has a love affair with our airport and I know that as soon as we start to flow the people in that new building, that great love affair with the Gore Bay Airport will just explode and intensify."
Colwell added that his team is very excited to be “this close to the finish line.”
