Unwanted person call leads to seizure of $32K of suspected fentanyl in northern Ont.

Provincial police say three men were arrested and charged and $32,000 in suspected fentanyl was seized during an investigation in Moosonee, Ont.

An unwanted person call led to the seizure of 80 grams of fentanyl in Moosonee and the arrest of three people.

James Bay Ontario Provincial Police received a call about three people at a residence on Moose Drive at about 2 p.m. on Jan. 28.

“Officers located and arrested three individuals inside the home for trespassing,” police said in a news release Friday.

“A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of approximately 80 grams of suspected fentanyl … as well as approximately 130 grams of cannabis.”

OPP said the estimated value of the suspected fentanyl seized is $32,000.

A 31-year-old Brampton man was charged with five offences, including drug trafficking, possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling and obstructing a peace officer, in addition to trespassing.

He remains in custody and wasscheduled to appear in court in Moosonee on Friday.

The two local men were also charged in the incident, a 42-year-old and a 36-year-old. Both are charged with obstructing a peace officer. The 42-year-old faces additional charges of failing to comply with release and probation orders while the 36-year-old was also charged with trespassing.

Both local accused were released and are scheduled to appear in court on March 11.
