With temperatures expected to plunge later in the day Friday, areas near Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls are under a flash freeze warning and a snow squall watch.
Environment Canada said temperatures in the area are expected to drop rapidly Friday afternoon, freezing slush and any water that has pooled.

“Water from melting snow is expected to freeze suddenly, especially on untreated surfaces,” the warning said.
“A cold front will move through the area beginning early this afternoon along Highway 11 near Klotz Lake and will reach the Timmins area this evening. Temperatures are expected to quickly plunge below the freezing mark.”
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery, making driving and walking more hazardous.
Snow squalls
Once the cold has set in, there’s a chance of snow squalls developing in the evening.
“Under the snow squall, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow,” Environment Canada said.
“Reduced visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow. Peak snowfall rates of three to five cm per hour. Total snowfall amounts of 5-10 cm.”
Along with the snow, residents should expect strong northerly wind gusts behind the cold front that will also bring reduced visibilities in blowing snow.
“Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably,” Environment Canada said.
“Changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.”
