Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a break-and-enter and sexual assault that occurred in Aroland First Nation last week.

The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) received a call on the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 28, reporting a break-in and property damage at a residential address. Investigators determined that masked male suspects had forcibly entered the home in the early morning hours of the same day.

“While inside the home, the suspects attacked and sexually assaulted a male resident and destroyed their property,” said police in a news release.

Following an investigation, NAPS officers identified, located, and arrested two suspects on Thursday, Jan. 30.

A 22-year-old and a 45-year-old both from Aroland First Nation face charges of breaking-and-entering, mischief, sexual assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and disguise with intent.

Both accused appeared for a bail hearing on Jan. 31 and were remanded into custody. They are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service at 1-800-654-6277 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
