Timmins police are investigating an incident involving a firearm that took place in the city’s south end Friday afternoon.
Responding to the incident officers from the Timmins Police Service located a Toronto-area man with a gun-shot wound.
“The conscious male was transported to hospital by ambulance where he remains and continues to receive medical attention,” police said in a news release Saturday.
“The injuries sustained are deemed to be serious, however the man remains in stable condition.”
Marc Depatie is the corporate communications coordinator for the Timmins Police Service, during an interview with CTV News Saturday afternoon he confirmed the young man continues to receive necessary medical care in hospital and is in stable condition.
Timmins police said the public can expect to see a strong police presence in the area around the apartment building where the incident occurred as their Criminal Investigation Division completes various tasks related to the shooting.

According to the release, no tangible or specific threat to public safety exists.
“No public safety concerns at this point,” Insp. Darren Dinel told CTV News on Friday.
“Officers are actively seeking out means to identify and locate the person or persons responsible for this incident,” said Depatie.
“This is an open investigation, we have conducted a number of interviews so far but still the measure of locating the persons responsible still remains a police responsibility at this time. We are eager to receive any information that can come forward from the public in terms of somebody who might have seen suspicious activity in the immediate area or saw the event take place itself.”
