With the resumption of the OHL trade period, the Sudbury Wolves announced this week they have acquired several draft picks in a trade with the Flint Firebirds.
The Wolves acquired defenceman Gavin Ewles and forward Daks Klinkhammer along with nine future OHL draft picks.
Headed to Flint are Wolves overage forward Evan Konyen, overage defenceman Nolan Collins, defenceman Matthew Mania and the rights to Josh Colosimo.
“We are very excited to add a couple of players with OHL experience,” Wolves GM Rob Papineau is quoted as saying in a news release.
“Additionally, acquiring nine draft picks, many of which are high picks, is crucial for our future. We now have seven second-round picks and six third-round picks over the next four years.”
Papineau said trading players who have been with the team for a long time “is always tough,” but the team had little choice.
“With the overage rules only allowing us to play three overage players, we wanted to get ahead of this early in the summer and find a good opportunity for both Evan and Nolan,” he said.

“They are two outstanding players and individuals from wonderful families. We wish them both a great season with Flint next year and thank them for being excellent Sudbury Wolves and contributors to our community.”
"Today, we are making important moves to strengthen our team and position ourselves for a deep run this season,” Wolves owner Dario Zulich said in the release.
“Our shared goal is clear: to go deep into the playoffs and bring home a championship. The Wolves are united in our pursuit of excellence, and I have every confidence in our team's potential and direction."
