The boys’ and girls’ A/AA championships saw 32 of the best teams from across Ontario battle it out over the last three days.

After losing the NOSSA final to Korah Collegiate Colts from Sault Ste. Marie in double overtime two weeks ago, the Cards pulled out a bronze medal in the provincial tournament Thursday afternoon.

St. Charles won its final game 2-0 against St. Theresa Titans from Belleville at Countryside arena.

They were the only northern team to win a medal.

There were a few tears from both players and parents as that game will be the last for some students.

It has been 17 years since a Sudbury school took the podium when the girls’ team from College Notre-Dame won in 2008.

Sacred Heart takes gold

Meanwhile, the Sacred Heart Crusaders from Walkerton took gold over the St. Joseph’s Jaguars of Renfrew in a 5-2 win.

With five minutes left in the third period, the Crusaders were leading 3-2 when they got two simultaneous two-minute penalties.

They were able to defend their net before coming out of the 5-on-3 power play to score a fourth goal with just three minutes on the clock.

In the final minute of the gold medal game, the Jaguars pulled their goalie, but Sacred Heart scored on the empty net.
