Sault victim hit in the head multiple times with a hammer

One person was seriously injured in an attack with a hammer in the Sault earlier this week. A suspect has been charged.

One person is in hospital with serious injuries and a 30-year-old has been charged following a hammer attack in Sault Ste. Marie on Monday.

Sault police received a 911 call around 9:20 p.m. that someone was badly hurt at a multi-unit residential building in the 500 block of Albert Street West.

“Officers were dispatched to the unit, where they located the victim,” police said in a news release Wednesday.

“An investigation revealed the accused had struck the victim multiple times in the head with a hammer, resulting in serious physical injuries.”

The victim – who knew the attacker – was rushed to hospital. The accused was located nearby and arrested by officers.

“A hammer was located and seized,” police said.

“The accused is charged with assault with a weapon and is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.”
