Sault police charge 91-year-old man with sexual assault

Published:

Front-line police officers in Sault Ste. Marie are getting body cameras to record interactions and will be fully operational in the coming weeks.

A 91-year-old man is accused of breaking into a home and sexually assaulting the resident while they were sleeping, Sault Ste. Marie police say.

Operators with 911 received the call Feb. 13 around 4 p.m., police said in a news release Thursday.

“An investigation revealed the accused had broken into the residence of the victim and began to sexually assault them while they were asleep,” police said.

“The victim and accused are familiar to one another but have had minimal contact prior to this incident.”

Patrol officers charged the accused Feb. 18 with sexual assault and committing an indictable offence by breaking and entering.

He was released from custody on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court April 14.
