Police in Sault Ste. Marie charged a 73-year-old man this week with sexual assault of someone under the age of 16.
The incident took place Wednesday in the city, police said in a news release.
“Around 4:30 p.m., police received a report of a 15-year-old child having been sexually assaulted by someone unknown to them,” police said Thursday.
“An investigation revealed the accused met the victim at a public place and, despite learning their age, took the victim to their residence and sexually assaulted them.”
Police arrested him and charged him with sexual assault of someone under age 16 and sexual interference.
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
