Provincial police investigate fatal commercial vehicle crash on Hwy. 11

One person was killed Friday night west of Smooth Rock Falls in what police say was a two-vehicle head-on collision.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal head-on collision on Highway 11 involving two commercial motor vehicles.

The crash occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday about five kilometres west of Smooth Rock Falls, Ont.

OPP responded to the collision along with local emergency medical services and firefighting personnel.

“One driver, a 57-year-old from Sainte-Eulalie, Que. was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said police in a social media post.

“The other driver sustained life-threatening, life-altering injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance.”

Investigators have not released any details on the cause of the crash or if any charges are pending.

Police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

“Further updates will be provided as information becomes available,” said police.

Highway 11 was closed was between Cochrane and Kapuskasing for approximately 16 hours, reopening at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
